Friday, December 9 • Journey Cafe, Hamburg

Who doesn’t look forward to making and eating Christmas cookies?!?! It’s certainly is a holiday favorite past-time, and there’s so many different kinds to choose from! It’s fun and a great way to get together with friends and family in the kitchen.

The two best parts of Christmas cookies, we think, are Decorating and Swapping. Here’s the plan:

• For the Decorating part, we’ll supply each guest with one dozen pre-baked Christmas-type sugar cookies, made in shapes like trees, stars, stockings, and snowflakes. And, we’ll prepare lots of bags of royal icings in red, green and white to decorate the cookies with. We will have a few simple decorator sugars and/or sprinkles available, but you are welcome to bring your own!

• For the Swapping part, you will need to bake 2 dozen of your favorite cookie, and bring them and the recipe to the activity.

We ask that you bring the following items with you to this activity:

  • Two dozen of your favorite cookies, ALREADY BAKED, and the recipe for you to share in the cookie swap
  • A container for transporting your newly decorated cookies – preferably a large flat or cookie sheet type of container (the royal icing you decorate the cookies with may not be dry and set by the end of the evening)
  • Another container or two to hold the two dozen cookies you will choose in the swap: you can mix and match, and take a copy of each recipe as well.

Here are some happy cookie decorators from the past…

Light refreshments will be served, and you may also bring a snack to share such as chips and salsa or pretzels, etc.

There is no fee to attend this event, but there will be a donation basket available if you’d like to contribute a few dollars towards the cost of the sugar cookies and decorator icings that we will provide.

We want to make sure to bake enough cookies and have enough prepared icing on hand for everyone to enjoy. Therefore, we GREATLY appreciate that you RSVP here or by visiting the event on our Inspired Sisters facebook page. If your plans change and you cannot make it after you RSVP, we hope that you will let us know that as well.

SIDENOTE: Zion’s Church Young Adults Group is hosting a “Season’s of Greetings” on December 11th and 18th outside of Zion’s Church in between services where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or cocoa and some cookies as you gather around the campfire. They are in need of donations of cookies, so if you would like to donate to them you are welcome to contribute by bringing extra cookies in addition to the two dozen for the swap.
